Hermes Landscaping Wins National Awards

Hermes Landscaping is proud to announce it has been selected to receive national awards for two notable Kansas City projects, the Garmin International Headquarters in Olathe, Kansas, and the Sprint Center Arena in downtown Kansas City.  These projects have been honored as part of the Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET) Environmental Improvement Awards Program.

PLANET is the leading green industry professional trade association in the nation.  Competing for these prestigious awards against the country’s most prominent landscaping companies, Hermes brought the spotlight home to Kansas City.

CEO Dalton Hermes remarked, “Projects like Garmin and the Sprint Center show our community what landscaping is capable of doing. The owners of these projects wanted to push the envelope in terms of what we are used to seeing here in the Midwest, and it’s a great way to show the world what Kansas City can do. We are proud to have been a part of their success.”

The landscape design for Sprint Center is modern and minimalist. With limited space around the arena, the landscape incorporates water features and a variety of plants to create maximum visual impact with minimum disruption to pedestrian traffic flow. The focal point of the landscape is New York artist Chris Doyle’s “The Moons” multimedia art installation, which mixes landscape and video and has already become an iconic image to Kansas City.

Scott Bingham, landscape architect for the project, commented, “Hermes took a lot of pride in their landscape work at the Sprint Center, and it turned out even better than I had imagined.”
For the Garmin International Headquarters in Olathe, Hermes both designed and installed the beautiful “East meets West” courtyard. The space pays tribute to Garmin’s founders, Gary Burrell and Min Kao. The spirit of Burrell, a Kansas native, is reflected in the upper courtyard area, which features prairie grasses, native trees, and a trickling waterway reminiscent of a Kansas creek. The lower courtyard pays homage to Min Kao’s homeland of Taiwan, evoking a tranquil oriental garden. A third area of the courtyard is modern and minimalist, representing the company’s path into the future.

Although Hermes Landscaping has received dozens of local awards over the years, this is the first time the company has been recognized with a national award. PLANET comprises over 100,000 green industry professionals nationwide, and its Awards Program reflects its commitment to creating and preserving natural beauty. This year, 139 projects nationwide received awards, based on quality of materials used, degree of difficulty of the project, quality of the design, and general appearance.

We are proud to be named as one of Ingram's "Best of Business Kansas City 2013" winners. Hermes Landscaping was recognized in the Best Lawn/ Landscape Maintenance Firm category.

I think we have finally found a company that cares about doing a good job for their customers.
