Hermes Landscaping Donates $128K to Local Non-Profit

Lenexa, KS–April 8, 2010—Community Living Opportunities  (CLO), a non-profit organization benefiting children and adults with developmental disabilities, will have a brand new “treescape,” thanks to a donation by Hermes Landscaping of Lenexa, Kansas.  The company recently provided $128,000 in landscaping services and large trees, which will be installed over the next few weeks at the CLO Midnight Farm facility in Baldwin, Kansas. The donation will include supply and installation of several semi loads of shade and ornamental trees.

Historically, Hermes Landscaping has regularly donated trees and services to various groups, but this is the largest single donation the company has ever presented. “CLO is an amazing organization, and we couldn’t be happier about helping them beautify the Midnight Farm,” said Dalton Hermes, CEO of Hermes Landscaping. “We are proud to be able to help them, and I am excited to see what the facility will look like after all the trees have been planted.”

CLO was formed in 1977 by a group of Johnson County parents who wanted an alternative to state institutions for their disabled children. One of the first organizations of its kind to provide community-based services centered on dignity, respect, and positive reinforcement, CLO has grown dramatically in the past 30 years, and its expansion continues steadily as the state of Kansas systematically downsizes its institutions.

Currently, CLO serves over 300 children and adults with developmental disabilities primarily in Douglas and Johnson Counties. CLO has worked in partnership with the Applied Behavioral Sciences Department at the University of Kansas to develop and implement several innovative treatment models.

The CLO Midnight Farm facility, a nationally recognized equestrian center, offers unique opportunities for country living, work, and recreation for people with significant challenges.  CLO administrators are excited about the opportunity to beautify this facility.

“We are thrilled to receive such a generous donation of trees from Hermes Landscaping for Midnight Farm,” said Yolanda Hargett, CLO Senior Administrator. “The trees will definitely enhance the beauty of the farm and provide plenty of shade along the riding and walking trails, and the many children and adults with special needs who live, work, and play at Midnight Farm will certainly enjoy looking at and relaxing underneath these trees for years to come.”

Hermes Landscaping has been active in commercial and residential landscaping in the Kansas City area since 1965, and offers a full range of landscaping services for builders, real estate property owners and managers, home owners, architects, contractors, and developers.
